Centenary of Scouting

This patch came with the proof-like 50 Pence "Be Prepared" coin.
I believe the set was only issued at the World Scout Jamboree.

Northwest Territorial Mint

I recently found a new series of nicely minted
scout coins.  If you are interested in beginning
a collection, I recommend these.

There are Boy Scout, Cub Scout, Venturing,
Sea Scouts and Order of the Arrow coins.

As an advertising gimmick, the Excelsior Shoe Company gave a medal to boys who purchased the companies shoes.  These medals were brass and about 33 mm in diameter.  I am aware of six major medal varieties.  The first four have "BOY SCOUTS" on the obverse.  The second two are similar but have the word "MEDAL" instead.

  1. Obverse – THE ORIGINAL "BOY SCOUTS" SHOE FOR BOYS, JULY 1910
Reverse – Excelsior shoe logo &
MANUFACTURED BY THE EXCELSIOR SHOE CO PORTSMOUTH, O.
  2. Obverse – THE ORIGINAL "BOY SCOUTS" SHOE FOR BOYS, JULY 1910
Reverse – GOOD LUCK (at the top of the medal) &
MANUFACTURED BY THE EXCELSIOR SHOE CO PORTSMOUTH, O.
  3. Obverse – BOY SCOUTS (at the top of the medal)
MANUFACTURED BY THE EXCELSIOR SHOE CO PORTSMOUTH, O. (no date)
Reverse – MEMBERSHIP EMBLEM OF THE BOY SCOUTS CLUB &
GOOD LUCK (at the bottom of the medal)
  4. Obverse – BOY SCOUTS (at the top of the medal), large horse & rider holding rifle
MANUFACTURED BY THE EXCELSIOR SHOE CO PORTSMOUTH, O. (no date)
Reverse – MEMBERSHIP EMBLEM OF THE BOY SCOUTS CLUB &
GOOD LUCK (at the bottom of the medal)
  5. Obverse – THE EXCELSIOR MEDAL SHOE FOR BOYS, JULY 1910

BELLE MEADE SHOE CO. NASHVILLE, TENN.
DIVISION OF THE GENERAL SHOE CORPORATION

The symbol on the reverse of three of them appears to be a swastika but is actually a good luck symbol.  Read more about the symbol here (a reference web site).  Most of these medals were issued with a small hole at the top.  This was done to allow the medal to be tied to the shoe before they were sold.

The swastika has been used on a number of tokens.  Larger images of the above tokens and others can be seen on my Good Luck Tokens web page.
