Venturing Week at Philmont Training CenterThe Philmont Training Schedule for Venturing has apparently changed to July 26 through August 1, 2009 from the week of July 12-18, 2009 which was shown on the flyer distributed at the end of summer 2008.  Additionally, not all the courses originally offered are available at this time.  This web page has been updated to reflect the current courses and their respective dates.

The fee for the conferences participants is $450 for the week.  Fees are $320 for spouses and children over 20; $255 for ages 6-20; $160 for ages 3-5; and $60 for 2 and under.  Mountain Trek and NAYLE are each $340.  Fees include all conference and program materials, meals and lodging.

Attention Crew Advisors andKodiak-BSA.org district/council volunteers:  Do you have any youth members in your Crew or family who would like to take a mountain trek at Philmont this summer and earn their Kodiak Award at the same time?  Kodiak is an opportunity for advanced leadership training.  For the second year, adult volunteers who attend one of the conferences during Venturing week will be able to bring one or two youth along for this fabulous opportunity.  There are a very limited number of spots available, so make your plans quickly.  Register for a conference and indicate your interest, and the Philmont Training Center will call you with the details for the Kodiak Mountain Treks.  Kodiak Mountain Flyer

PTC Registration - There is a new process in place for PTC registration this summer.  For easy to follow instructions, open this PDF instruction file.

PTC Masters Track Square Knot The Philmont Training Center has developed a new knot called the PTC Masters Track Square Knot.  The award is for PTC training taken after June 1, 2008.  This would be a good year to begin working on the requirements.  The requirements are in this PTC Masters Track (PDF) file.

It's no secret in Venturing that if your crew isn't growing, it's dying.  Our youth members get older each year and eventurally leave Venturing.  At this conference, you will learn how successful crews around the country have attracted new members to their ranks.  You'll also learn how the successful crews have incorporated popular programs, activities, and leadership training into their annual programs.  If you're a crew Advisor with older youth members, this is the conference for you.  If you are a district or council membership volunteer, you shouldn't miss this conference.  You'll return to your Venturing job with the knowledge to be a true volunteer hero.

It's no secret that Venturing has been the fastest growing program in the BSA for several years.  If your district or council is not achieving its membership goals or if your district or council has seen growth followed by membership loss, you shouldn't miss this conference.  You will learn how to incorporate proven techniques into your district's or council's operation.  You will see how successful districts and councils have attained sustained growth without having negative impact on other Scouting programs.
