by Wallace Alcorn, Ph.D.
Although it was my father, W. Kieth Alcorn, who was the Silver Beaver (1949), I was an "eager beaver" in accumulating rank and awards in scouting. I not only was the first Eagle in our troop (of which he was scoutmaster), but earned the bronze, gold, and silver palm branches for additional merit badges. I also earned the Explorer Ranger rank and then Sea Scout Quartermaster, with only the Air Scout Ace award not attempted of the three senior scouting highest ranks. I later became a quartermaster-signalman in the navy and succeeded my scouting eagle as an army Colonel.
