Travel/Touring Group Organizing
By now, you have been notified to provide your time at Copenhagen airport for pick up to be shuttled to the Jamboree. If this is not the case, you need to contact BSA immediately.
Remember, everyone is concentrating on the contingent (that is the units of youth) and IST are pretty much left to their own devices. So, here is my recommendation. Don't allow lack of information from BSA frustrate you. It is not hard to make travel arrangements. Here are the things you should be doing NOW:
- You should now have your passport and it must be good for at least four months after your return date.
- You should get your BSA medical - MAKE SURE YOU USE THE NEWEST form (November, 2010).
- Your flights should now be booked.
- HAVE FUN! Do some touring before and after. If you are intimidated about making your own arrangements, consider joining me for the ISTour I am putting together.
If you want to join some of your fellow IST for touring, Donald Roberts has put together a tour package that is informal and pay as you go. You can join us for any of the venues, all or none. Our base of operations will be Hotel au Pacific for the Paris portion (11 rue Fondary near the Eiffel Tower). Our first activity will be 22 July to the top of the Eiffel tower at sunset then have dinner on the Champs Elysee at l'Alsace, 39 Ave Des Champs-Elysees (at 8th) and get to know one another. This ISTour PDF link (updated 2/6/11) will take you to our latest itinerary. Again, meetings will be at Hotel au Pacific unless otherwise noted.
See the itinerary for details where to get specific venue information. NOTE: Paris venues should be pre-purchased because you can spend more time in line to get the tickets (such as Eiffel Tower) than actually on the attraction. Who wants to do that?
Contact Donald Roberts at robertsd@sbcglobal.net for any other questions about this informal get together. We have an e-mailing list which you are invited to join where itinerary items are discussed or proposed.
The current BSA medical form can be downloaded as a fillable pdf from www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34605_Letter.pdf. This is the medical form BSA will be using for the WSJ.
